Why do some of us always have high motivation? Why are they very energetic and enthusiastic like they have hidden power? Is it possible to be more energetic and enthusiastic regardless of what is done?

Everyone knows the importance of motivation to acting and taking results.

OK but, is it sustainable?

How can we do?

Is having constant motivation a habit or an innate talent?

It’s so cliche but everyone makes new year’s resolutions like eating healthier, doing sport, reading a lot, etc. We believe that with this decisions what is taken at the end of the year or at the beginning of the new year, we’ll be able to create “a new me” that is want to be.

According to the research, people can make new resolutions at least 86 times in a year including that the beginning of the weeks, the beginning of the months, the home and job changes.. etc. So our motivation to create a new me is quite high but how about the results? But everyone even knows that they isn’t sustainable without habit at the same time. So first of all, we must focus on creating habit about what we want to do.

Bj Fogg, one of the most important names in the behavioral science and habits, creates a model that tells us how can create a new habit. This model sheds light on our understanding of the hidden sides both of habit and motivation.

According to Fogg, there are 3 things that trigger our process of creating habit.

1- Having enough motivation

2- Having enough ability to do it

3- There must be a trigger in the environment to initiate the behavior.

The equation for it:

If there isn’t one of them in the environment, it doesn’t work!

If get back to our main topic, it creates an equation for the motivation as follows:

As we find it, we can get into the three things.

Ability: If you haven’t enough talent about thing that you want to do, you can not to be in the flow while doing it.

For example, do you want to learn a new language? If you are elementary level but you start advance level, you are very close to burnout in a short time. Because you can’t enjoy, you can’t want to go further for it while learning language. At the end of the process you get nothing but a waste of time. Also, you don’t want to start again because you lost time once. it’s such an awful cycle for habits. Then, you must start at a level that matches your ability, so you can enjoy and you can continue to do it.

Trigger: If you have trigger in the environment to do what you want to do, this will be easier. Because everything in front of our eyes is a warning. We need to remember things that we cant see. Doing something by remebering isn’t sustainable. We need the shortcuts. For example do you want to drink water a lot in a day? If you put a bottle of water on your table, you will drink a lot. Because You can see the bottle while you are working. And this situation triggers you to drink the water. Back to the learning another language example, if you put the things in other language in your environment, you can read and watch a lot in this language. So this makes you continue to learn in an uninterrupted manner.

Can you notice something? Ability and Trigger, both of them ensure consistency.

And Habit: Habit is thing that we want to do part of our life and thing that we want to do long period. Again we mention about consistency.

What do I mean? I say that consistency is a king!

I say that what we need to gain is consistency for the motivation!

In a nutshell if you want to do something and you make it a part of your life, firstly you must see as a habit, secondly you must start doing it at your level and you always keep triggers to dont have to remember it. So you only continue without giving up. Because all of them are about consistency. All of them are a tool that provides an enviroment for consistency.

I would like to close the issue with another cliche:

“Fake it until make it”

So, if you do something everyday without any shift, you can win the game. Just show it up everyday and feed your motivation. Use this game as a tool to improve yourself!
